WORKSHOP LISBON

Bodywork Percussion

Bodywork Percussion is a practical workshop focused on rhythmic percussion techniques for the shoulders, upper back and surrounding areas. Using different forms of tapping, cupping and controlled rhythmic contact, participants learn how percussion can be applied to reduce the feeling of muscular tightness, warm and stimulate the tissues, encourage local blood flow and make the shoulders and upper back feel more mobile and less restricted.

These techniques are particularly useful in areas that commonly become tense through prolonged sitting, repetitive arm use, stress or sustained posture. Applied with appropriate rhythm and intensity, percussion can help decrease the sensation of stiffness around the trapezius, shoulder girdle and upper thoracic region, improve body awareness and prepare the tissues for movement, stretching or further bodywork. Many people also experience a temporary sense of lightness, warmth and increased ease of movement after the techniques are applied.

During the workshop, participants learn how to vary rhythm, speed, hand shape and intensity according to the area being treated and the response of the person receiving the work. Particular attention is given to the shoulders, upper back and the region around the shoulder blades, with an emphasis on working comfortably and avoiding sensitive anatomical structures.

The workshop is suitable for massage and bodywork practitioners, movement professionals and anyone interested in learning practical hands-on techniques for everyday muscular tension. No previous experience is required. The focus is on developing precise, confident and responsive touch, while understanding when percussion is useful, how much intensity is appropriate and how to integrate it safely into a broader bodywork practice.
